Abstract

The increase in user amount and voice traffic puts a huge pressure on GSM/EDGE networks especially within populous countries. A newly proposed concept, multi-user reusing one slot (MUROS), would help operators in densely populated cities to alleviate the strain on their networks. The key idea of MUROS is to multiplex two or more users onto one time slot. We improved one downlink (DL) MUROS solution, two users coexist in one TCH (Co-TCH), by proposing the scheme named MSK-based orthogonal pair (MSK-OP) in this paper. Theoretical analysis and simulation results shows that MSK-OP is a promising scheme of MUROS due to its ability to double the peak voice capacity of GSM networks without degrading the speech quality very much.
