Abstract

Two amino resinous intumescent flame retardants were synthesized, which were applied to soft polyurethane foam (SPUF)). The thermal behavior and flame retardancy of samples were determined by TG and CONE. Activation energies for the decomposition of samples were obtained using the method of Kissinger. The date show that for flame retardant SPUF, the limiting oxygen index, char yield, smoke, gas, CO and CO2 release are much decreased, char yield is increased, 30% weight of flame retardants are added into SPUF to get about 27 of the limiting oxygen index, which shows good flame retardancy. Moreover, a proper flame retardant is choosed for SPUF according to their effects on mechanic properties of SPUF. The activation energies for the decomposition of samples are decreased by -50 kJ/mol, which shows that the flame retardants can catalyze decomposition and carbonization of SPUF.
