Abstract

Ethylene-propylene-diene-monomer rubber/ polyhedal oligomeric silsequioxane (EPDM/POSS) composites were prepared by twin roller mixing with octaphenylsilsequioxane (OPS) and vulcanizing agent. The mechanical properties, thermal stability, limited oxygen index (LOI), UL-94 measurement, heat release rate (HRR) and the others of the composites were studied. Comparing with the pure EPDM, the EPDM/POSS composites have the decreased HRR, the increased thermal stability, and the improved mechanical properties. The LOI is increased by 18.5%, the temperature of degradation is increased 19 °C, the p-HRR is decreased by 18.3%, and the tensile strength is doubled when 20 phr OPS is added.
