Flame retardancy and thermal properties of octavinyl-polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane/ABS composites

Abstract

A series of octavinyl-polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (OVP)/ABS hybrid composites were prepared by the screwextruter, TGA measurements reveal that the addition of OVP with initiator to ABS improve the thermal properties of ABS. The oxygen index and heat release rates (HRR) of OVP/ABS composites were measured. The results show OVP can increase the oxygen index, and reduce the peak of heat release rate. Through SEM, the char of OVP/ABS combustion was analyzed. The results demonstrate that OVP can help ABS to increase the quality of char.
