Abstract

An effective fast volume rendering algorithm is investigated. Based on the splatting algorithm, an accelerated algorithm is used to pick up the nearest surface volume and realize fast volume rendering. A method of separation for volume data is presented. Through this algorithm, high quality images can be obtained in much faster speed. The algorithm is a combination of surface rendering and volume rendering methods, in possession of the strongpoints of both. It is only fit for the reconstruction of opaque objects.
