Abstract

To reducing penetration resistance and increasing the depth of penetration, two types of nose headed penetrator (NHP) were proposed based on the characteristics of concrete. Penetration experiments were proceeded to analyse the feasibility of NHP's reducing resistance and the influence of NHP on penetration resistance. The penetration depths and resistances of NHP and ogive-nose penetrator were computed and compared based on the Forrestal formula. The experimental and computational results show NHPs can reduce the penetration resistance, NHPs can increase the depth of penetrators by 10% after optimizing.
