Abstract

To ignite uniformly and synchronistically the propellant bed of heavy calibre gun and decrease the pressure wave in the bore, the new igniter tube was developed. The firing experiments were performed for two kinds of igniter tube having different size and vent, and the pressure in different positions of the tubes was measured. The quasi one-dimensional two-phase flow model for combustion has been built. The experimental results have indicated the speed of ignition of the igniter tube is fast and the pressure distribution within the igniter tube is uniform. The results of experiments and numerical calculation are in reasonable agreement.
