Abstract
The response and inflame/initiation of cylinder charge covered with thin shell under the fragment impacts are studied. 1.5 g (∅5.6 mm×7.8 mm) steel fragment is used to impact 3mm thick aluminum plate, thin steel plate, cylinder charges covered with 3mm thick aluminum shell and steel shell, and the experiment process is recorded synchronously with a high-velocity camera. The impact response and inflame/initiation characteristics are analyzed. The research results show that the inflame/initiation of cylinder charge covered with thin shell is mainly caused by the impact and friction of fragment and broken shell pieces, and the temperature of aluminum shell is higher than that of steel shell, so the aluminum shell can be used to increase the probability of inflame/initiation under the high velocity impact.
