Abstract

A theoretical analysis to investigate the electron density of plasma in a thermal nonequilibrium state has been performed. A dimensional analysis was carried out to examine the factors that affect the electron density of plasma in a thermal nonequilibrium state. Three dimensionless numbers were obtained in addition to the ionization degree defined by the electron density and initial particle number density. Several numerical simulations of plasma by COMSOL were performed to calculate the ionization degree related to the three dimensionless numbers. By changing the three dimensionless numbers, respectively, the relationship between the ionization degree obtained by numerical simulation and the three dimensionless numbers was derived. The formula derived as a result of dimensional analysis was checked to be used for predicting the ionization degree of plasma in a thermal nonequilibrium state.
