Abstract

The characteristics of geosynchronous Earth orbit synthetic aperture radar (GEO SAR) are affected significantly by Earth rotation. This paper first proposes a series of analytical methods of satellite motion parameters in arbitrary earth orbit height under the Satellite local Coordinate System. Then several calculation formulas of SAR system parameters, such as SAR Quality, are modified and the potential of high resolution wide swath is analysed for GEO SAR. Moreover Earth rotation would induce huge Doppler frequency variations between near- and far-end for the same beam which should be mitigated through the proper attitude control or considered in PRF design. At last, the simulations validate the conclusion in this paper.
