Abstract

Static mechanical property of a new ultra-high strength steel(83 steel) which quenched at 950°C and tempered at 200-700°C was investigated, and dynamic compression properties of the steel was studied by Hopkinson bar. Effect of tempering temperature on mechanical properties of the steel was also studied. The results show that temper brittleness of the 83 steel is observed at 250-450°C, and the plasticity and toughness of the steel are worse and adiabatic shear failure is more easily occurs. While 83 steel is tempered beyond 250-450°C, its temper brittleness is not observed, and the plasticity and toughness of the steel become better and adiabatic shear failure becomes more difficult to occur with tempering temperature rising.
