Abstract

In Eulerian coordinate, the dimensionless radial stress equations were derived for the spherically symmetric, cavity-expansion problem in plastic and elastic region of concrete by means of the similarity transformation. In the equations, Mohr-Coulumb yield criterion was used. The dimensionless radical stress profiles were obtained and the relation between the dimensionless radical stress and locked volumetric strain was analyzed. It has been shown that the predicted depths of penetration, using the dimensionless radical stress, are in reasonable agreement with penetration test data.
