Abstract

To obtain an approach to describe the characteristics of debris clouds produced by hypervelocity impacts with thin sheets, results from the Swift model, the Piekutowski model and the Bless model were analyzed by comparing them with simulation results. The Swift model was modified. The results showed that the Piekutowski model and the Bless model were fit for the debris clouds produced by hypervelocity impacts of discs with thin sheets, and the modified Swift model was fit for the cases with spherical projectiles.
