Abstract

Cultural heritage conservation through digital technologies is a trend of development nowadays. " Monuments and Sites in their Settings-Conserving Cultural Heritage in Changing Townscapes and Landscapes " is a hot topic in this research field. Augmented reality can reach this goal and solve the problems in current conservation techniques. The present status and problems in culture heritage conservation were analyzed. Deficiencies in current digital protection methods were discussed. The conception of augmented reality technology and its special characteristics were introduced. The great potential of augmented reality in the culture heritage conservation was illustrated through some successful applications of the technology in on-site digital reconstruction home and abroad.
