Abstract

High standards on vehicle safety have demanded engineers to design automobile airbag systems with stable and reliable performance. One of major units in an airbag system is the airbag ignition system. In this paper, a design of the high-voltage piezoelectric power is studied. The utilization of a piezoelectric element can enhance the reliability through the increment of ignition energy. Using the multi-point ignition scheme to cope with the orientation of vehicle impact, the accuracy of airbag ignition would be improved and the accidental injury caused by collisions can be further reduced. Besides, a good solution to synchronization problems is provided by using multi-point synchronization control and multiple air bags. At last, simulation and some experiments are conducted, and the results show that the output voltage of this power is quickly gained and controlled at a range of high voltage, which meets the airbag electronic safety condition.
