Design of Ku-band low phase noise FMCW frequency source

Abstract

Frequency source is currently used in various fields such as radar, communications, navigation, etc., which is accredited as the "heart"of modern electronic systems. However, low phase noise modulated continuous wave(FMCW) frequency source is difficult to design. In this paper, a Ku-band low phase noise FMCW frequency source based on LMX2492 and HMC1167 with phase-locked loop(PLL) structure is developed. The final experimental results demonstrate that this frequency source can generate single frequency point and FMCW signal at 12-13 GHz, and the phase noise measured at 12.6 GHz is better than -90 dBc/Hz@1KHz.
