Abstract

Considering the small output power of switched reluctance generator (SRG) at low speed, this paper proposes a new power converter topology based on the operation principle of switched reluctance generator, aiming to improve the performance of traditional power converter. The new power converter includes two working modes: full winding excitation power generation and partial winding excitation power generation, which are applied to different speed to increase the output power. To verify the feasibility of proposed converter, simulations and experiments on the SRG with single phase, external rotor, and U-shaped stators are conducted, compared with the traditional power converter. The simulation results show that the new power converter increases the output power and improve the efficiency of SRG at low speed.
