Abstract

In this paper, a new type of switchable metamaterial wave transmission / reflection structure with an arrow shaped opening ring loaded with PIN diodes is proposed. By controlling the switching state of the diode at the opening, the switchable wave transmission / reflection characteristics can be realized in S-C band. The transmission / reflection consists of two periodic structures separated by a dielectric plate. The pin diodes are loaded in the upper structure and a supporting feed network is designed. By controlling the bias voltage of the diode, the switching between bandpass response (center frequency 4.32GHz, bandwidth 0.3GHz) and perfect reflection can be achieved. The structure is polarization insensitive and incident angle insensitive.
