Abstract

In order to solve the problem that the mental iteration process in collaborative design relies only on qualitative methods, which leads to vague and general evaluation, a method of representing design mental model based on quantitative analysis of design rationality is proposed. Firstly, by analyzing the characteristics of design mental model, the requirement of modeling design mental model is put forward. Secondly, the preconditions of this model are explained. Based on design rationality, the three elements of design mental model modeling and its representation are put forward. Then, two indicators, adaptability and validity, are put forward to quantitatively evaluate mental model by collecting indicators. Finally, based on the above model, the iteration process of mental model is analyzed. Taking the cantilever beam structure design as an example, the process of the proposed method is illustrated.
