Abstract

A turbo-cool turbocharging system is developed for CA6DL2 diesel engine. Air turbocharger design and a prototype manufacturing are made based on the specified parameters. Experiments of air turbocharger and turbocharging system were also carried out. Maximum efficiency of the designed air turbine reaches 77.4%. Experimental results show that air temperature is reduced with increasing rotational speed of air turbine and intercooler outlet temperature. Matching of engine model and turbo-cool turbocharging system was made, and engine characteristic at full-load condition was calculated. Simulation results show that turbo-cool can reduce charge air temperature and NOx emission effectively under the condition of the same intake air flow.
