Abstract

The dynamic performance requirements of the developed school bus was introduced. The forward-facing vehicle simulation model was established and used to simulate four powertrain configurations in three driving cycles. Simulation results shows merits and faults of four powertrain configurations in dynamic performance, all-electric range, fuel consumption and electricity consumption. A series plug-in hybrid electric powertrain was accomplished in the developed school bus and its powertrain parameters were determined. Analysis results are helpful to develop and evaluate different types of hybrid electric vehicles.
