Abstract
Dynamic performance requirements of the developed school bus are introduced. The forward-facing vehicle simulation model was established and used to simulate four powertrain configurations in three driving cycles. Quantitative evaluations were realised with the help of radar chart after linear dimensionless method was applied to different evaluation criteria. Simulation results show the merits and faults of four powertrain configurations in dynamic performance, all-electric range, fuel consumption and electricity consumption. A series plug-in hybrid electric school bus powertrain was constructed and tested. Simulation results were verified by results in field experiments. Analysis results are helpful to develop and evaluate different types of hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs).
