Abstract
Poor wettability and oxidation resistance have limited the application of graphite powder. A key to the problem is the surface modification. A ceramic coating was synthesized in this manuscript by the non-electrode plasma electrolysis technique for the purpose. The result showed that a cubic γ-Al2O3 coating was deposited on the graphite with a thickness of ~50 nm. The γ-Al2O3 coating significantly improved the oxidation resistance of the graphite powder and wettability, evidenced by ~80 °C the obvious increase of the initial oxidation temperature and ~50% improvement in wettability. We believe the technology will promote the development of powder surface modification technology and the application of the graphite powder.
