Abstract
The ablation behaviors of the carbon/silicon carbide composite chamber prepared by chemical vapor infiltration were investigated by testing in a kerosene/oxygen combustion environment. Ablation morphologies and mechanisms of each region were analyzed and discussed. The result showed that the active and passive oxidation of SiC, flushing action by laminar flow and turbulence flow played different roles in different regions, respectively. The combination of two or more factors above resulted in consumption of SiC and carbon fibers, and finally led to the failure of the chamber.
