Abstract

A mathematical model is set up for the exhaust system in which transfer matrices for seven kinds of silencing elements are considered, aimed at the even flow and linear temperature gradient by analyzing the structure of the exhaust muffler. On this basis the performance forecasting model is developed by the transfer matrix method. According to the model, a CAD system to the silencer is designed through VC++ and Matlab. It has two functions, i.e. that of acoustic performance forecasting and of aerodynamic performance forecasting. Experiments showed fine agreement between test and calculation results. The software appears to be useful for the design and further study on mufflers.
