Abstract
This paper aims to make clear the interplay of group velocity dispersion (GVD), nonlinear Kerr effect and polarization mode dispersion (PMD) in optical fibers. We first numerically analyses the interaction of Kerr effect and PMD in optical fibers, then study the combined effects of GVD, Kerr effect (including SPM and XPM of two polarized modes) and PMD. Detailed investigation reveals that the combined effects are different in abnormal and normal GVD regime.
