Abstract

In this work, an on-chip thin film transition from Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuit (MMIC) to waveguide is realized based on a dipole antenna structure. The transition is implemented on a 100-μm-thick InP substrate and placed in the E-plane of an air-filled WR-7 waveguide. The transition shows a maximum insertion loss of 1.5 dB and a minimum of 1.2 dB across the frequency range 110-170 GHz. The minimum return loss of the transition is 29 dB and the maximum is 10 dB.
