Abstract

A flexible micro-electro-mechanical system (MEMS) array antenna is presented which is used in the space satellite communication system, and its bending properties are studied in order to maintain its radiation characteristics as its plane state after deployment from bending. The flexible MEMS array antenna on an LCP substrate is designed with a central frequency of 30 GHz, and its radiation characteristics are obtained with simulation. Moreover, the bending states of the array antenna in different curvatures are simulated, and the stress distribution and the strain distribution of the antenna are analyzed respectively. Simulation results indicate that the elastic bending curvature range of the flexible MEMS array antenna is between 0 and 0.0125, which satisfies the application requirements of antennas deployment from bending in the space satellite communication system.
