Abstract

Application and prospect of polyether ether ketone(PEEK) and its composites in the biomedical field are reviewed. PEEK and its composites, which exhibit high thermal stability and creep resistance, have been used in production of medical equipment. It can be used as implantable material for spinal, trauma and orthopedic applications. thanks to fatigue resistance and penetrating of X-rays. Excellent wear resistance shows great superiority in artificial joint replacement. The stable chemical resistance and potential antimicrobial activity make it play an important role in dental restorations as well. Modification of PEEK and its composites can improve their comprehensive performance, so as to explore further applications in biomedical field.
