Application of numerical simulation technologies for continuous casting mold

Abstract

The continuous casting mold is like a "black box" due to the complexity and unsteadiness of the metalur-gical process in it. The whole process was difficult to be observed by traditional research methods, but these problems could just be made up by numerical simulation technology. Several common commercial numerical simulation software were introduced, application of the PHOENICS, ANSYS CFX/Fluent, ABAQUS, MARC, ProCAST and other numerical simulation software used in the casting mold was also reviewed. Moreover, the advantages and limitations of numerical simulation software were summarized. Finally, in order to combine simulation with metallurgical industry better, the development trends of numerical simulation technology in the continuous casting mold was also pointed out.
