Application of Ce0.6Tb0.1Zr0.3O2, a new oxygen storage material in three-way catalyst

Abstract

Ce0.6Tb0.1Zr0.3O2 solid solution was prepared by the coprecipitation technique and characterized by XRD and specific surface area measurements. Ce0.6Tb0.1Zr0.3O2 was used for the preparation of palladium-only three-way catalyst (TWC) and the performance of the TWC was evaluated. The results show that Ce0.6Tb0.1Zr0.3O2 has similar cubic structure with Ce0.6Zr0.4O2 whose phase is homogeneous and stable and it has higher specific surface area. The TWC containing Ce0.6Tb0.1Zr0.3O2 has higher catalytic activity and a wider operation window of air/fuel ratio and lower light-off temperatures of 177°C, 173°C and 176°C for HC,CO and NO, respectively. Ce0.6Tb0.1Zr0.3O2 is suitable for the oxygen storage material of a new generation of TWC.
