Abstract
A novel voice activity detection algorithm is put forward, which is based on soft computing theory, and is applied in adaptive multi-rate speech codec standardized by 3 GHP. The performance of this algorithm in varying background noise is analyzed in terms of probability of clipping and noise detected as speech. The simulation results indicate that the new algorithm is better than ITU G.729B according to objective evaluation method.
