Abstract

A new antistatic fiber was investigated by using carbon nanotubes (CNTs) to enhance the antistatic ability of polymer fibers. Composite antistatic agent, prepared by dispersing CNTs in organic antistatic agent, was cospun with polypropylene to prepare antistatic fibers. Experimental results show that the friction electrostatic charge of the antistatic fibers prepared by cospinning polypropylene and composite antistatic agent was lower than that of the antistatic fibers prepared by cospinning polypropylene and pure antistatic agent, the friction electrostatic charge could further decrease if the antistatic agent was filled with CNTs plated by silver. The CNTs plated by silver can further enhance the antistatic ability due to its improved conductivity.
