Abstract

The anion effect of Cl- and NO3- on hydrogen generation from sodium borohydride solution was studied. It is found that there are two competitive reactions, which produce metal borides and metal hydroxides, respectively. Cl- can help produce metal borides in the solution, which generates high activities to accelerate the following hydrolytic reaction. While NO3- can induce the producing of metal hydroxides, which has no catalytic activities and will suppress the hydrogen generation reaction.
