Abstract
In order to establish the starting procedure, the starting mode of a single piston hydraulic free-piston diesel engine (HFPDE) was studied. Based on the energy conversion process, the energy quantitative allocation proportion was analyzed theoretically. The parameter matching method of the compression accumulator, the frequency valve and the compression cavity was investigated and validated with experiments. The results indicate that the compression stroke in the starting mode is longer than in the steady operating state and the starting success rate is higher. The input starting energy is mainly offered by the compression accumulator and absorbed mostly by the high pressure cavity oil and the cylinder gas. The compression ratio in the starting mode can be adjusted freely. The proposed parameter matching method and the starting procedure are feasible.
