Abstract

The phase noise spectrum model of a phase locked loop frequency synthesizer for Ku-band, which can be used in satellite communication system was estimated based on the analysis of phase noise sources. The model only needs to obtain the noise characteristic data of the circuit chips to estimate the phase noise of the frequency synthesizer. The Leeson model is used for the reference input signal and VCO to precisely estimate the phase noise within frequency synthesizer. Through the construction of the whole power spectral density of phase noise in a single loop, the phase noise prediction and simulation model has been proposed. The prediction model is simulated and the frequency synthesizer was built. Theoretical model is supported by simulation results and tested data.
