Abstract

On the base of the study of Regular-Pulse-Excitation/Long-Term-Prediction (RPE-LTP) speech coding scheme (the bit rate is 13 kbit/s) an improved scheme with the bit rate of 7.4 kbit/s is described which greatly reduces the coding rate. In the improved scheme a partially searching method is used instead of the original one in LTP analysis, and vector quantization is applied to quantize the residual signal of the prediction. Its hardware implementation is done on TMS320C30 EVM with a single DSP chip TMS320C30. The experimental results show that the synthesized speech quality of the improved scheme is close to that of the original one.
