Abstract

An extension of the feedback local ramp metering strategy ALINEA is presented to realize early-warning for downstream ramp metering and timely adjust the ramp metering rater. The new metering algorithm needs to establish some detectors monitoring the maximum traffic volume. We develop an estimation of upstream maximum traffic volume. Simulation results show the proposed ramp metering strategy is promising.
