Abstract

In order to improve the mechanical properties of the propellants containing phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate(PSAN), ethylenediamine was used to react with the surface of PSAN particle to prepare ethylenediamine reactively coated PSAN. The chemical reaction between ethylenediamine and AN was confirmed by FTIR and the coating effect was characterized by hygroscopicity and contact angles test. The results show that the surface polarity of coated PSAN particle decreases obviously and the hygroscopicity decreases a certain extent in contrast with PSAN particle. When the coated PSAN particle was used in the BAMO-THF/PSAN propellants, the best improvements of the mechanical properties of the propellants are at coating mass of 0. 2%, the maximum stress (δm) increases by about 46%, and the elongation (εm) increases by about 83%.
