Abstract

Age of information (AoI) has lately evolved as a promising performance metric to quantify the timeliness of information updates in communication systems. In this letter, we aim to address the concurrent information update scheduling problem in edge-native (EN) systems, where Internet-of-Things (IoT) devices provide information updates for the processing of EN tasks on edge servers. To this end, we formulate an integer linear program to minimize the age of service (AoS) of EN tasks, and propose the age efficiency (AE) based flexible lookahead scheduling algorithm to progressively schedule information updates, where the lookahead level indicates the clairvoyance of channel state information and EN task arrivals. Our simulation results show that the proposed solution outperforms several comparison schemes under various parameter settings.
