Abstract

Messenger RNA (mRNA) as a naturally occurring molecule is involved in the transmission of genetic information. It has shown great potential in field of vaccination, protein-replacement therapy, and treatment of genetic diseases. Compared with traditional therapeutic modalities, mRNA has various advantages such as safe expression pattern and rapid deployment ability and can be used for personalized treatment. However, during the last couple of decades, the mRNA vaccines were thought be difficult to develop due to many technical obstacles. Recently, due to the development in RNA modification, in vitro transcription (IVT), and, especially, delivery technology, the therapeutic mRNA got immense popularity. In this chapter, we described the latest advances in mRNA delivery systems as well as tried to figure out the development trend of delivery platforms and also summarized the applications of mRNA therapeutics.
