Abstract
A simple strip-fed rectangular dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) is studied theoretically and experimentally. In previous studies of the rectangular DRA, only the fundamental TE111 mode was investigated. In this paper, it is found that the higher-order TE113 mode, together with the fundamental TE111 mode, can be used to design a wideband DRA. The bandwidth of the dual-mode DRA can be over 40%. The finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method is used to analyze the problem, and the results agree reasonably with measurements.
