Abstract

A mathematical model for the scattering centers induced by traveling waves on planar surfaces is proposed in this work. This model presents the concise, analytical descriptions of the location and the dependencies on the aspect angle and frequency for the scattering center. Numerical results of the radar cross-sections (RCS) and the time-frequency representations (TFR) show that the contribution of the surface waves to total fields is too strong to be ignored at some observing angles. To validate this model, the scattered waves from a rectangular plate and a trapezoidal plate are simulated, and are compared with the results computed by a full-wave method. The results show that good agreements are achieved by this model.
