Abstract

The performance of the high range resolution algorithm newly proposed for the linear frequency modulated continuous wave (LFMCW) radar deteriorates sharply at low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). The denoising performance of the band pass filter is limited by the variation of the distance between the target and the radar. This study presents a denoising method called the harmonics extraction denoising method using the spectral properties of the beat signal. The zero-padded FFT is taken as the ranging method to examine the performance of the method in the Monte Carlo simulation. The results show that the method can improve the performance of the high range resolution algorithm at low SNR and its denoising performance will not be effected by the variation of the distance between the target and the radar.
