Abstract

Deep brain stimulation (DBS) electrode placement has been a well-established technique in treating Parkinson's disease and epilepsy. The traditional frame-based stereotaxis needs a set of complicated instruments and brings lots of inconvenience to the patient during the surgery. This paper presents a frameless stereotactic system and shows how the system works. Then we describe the method used in the system for creating the frameless stereotactic frame. The stereotactic frame is created after 3 or 4 screw based reference points and one target point are assigned on the patient's CT and MR atlas. The algorithm to generate the frame is given in the paper. We show three instances to validate the developed method.
