Abstract

A methane explosion accident occurred in a chemical engineering plant in 2001 in China, which caused considerable loss and casualties. An empirical-judgment-based accident investigation was introduced but some doubtful problems left behind. For it is impossible to replay the accident in laboratory, the simulation is used to carry out the accident investigation in the present paper. We simulate the accident with different boundary conditions by the AutoReaGas software package. The simulation results provide some different opinions about the effects of the accident, which explains the above mentioned problems. Numerical values of some important explosion parameters are also given in the present paper.
