Abstract

In this paper, a Ka-band fully metallic surface-wave Luneburg lens antenna is proposed. The antenna is composed of a metallic slow wave lens based on bed of nails with continuous gradient and nine standard WR-28 rectangular waveguides. The corrugated slots are designed at the edge of the lens for the modification of the beam direction in E-plane. The heights of nails are designed to match the equivalent refractive index distribution of Luneburg lens. The full-wave simulated results show reflection coefficients below -13.7 dB and a beam scanning range of ±60° at the band from 26.5 to 30 GHz. The sidelobe levels lower than -10 dB and maximum gain of 18.2 dBi are obtained.
