Abstract

An efficient hybrid approach by integrating the iterative physical optics (IPO) and fast multipole method(FMM) is presented in this paper to improve the computational efficiency of EM scattering by electrically large cavity. The mathematical model of the approach is built and the compute operation count of per iterative step is reduce to O(N1.5) from the originally O(N2) for IPO method. Taking three cavities for examples, it is shown from the simulation results of RCS that the hybrid method presented is much more efficient than IPO method with the same accuracy.
