Abstract

The high-speed and dimming control modulation method in visible light communication(VLC) is researched. High-speed variable pulse modulation(HVPM) is proposed. It is used in VLC combined with color shift keying(CSK) to simplify the strict synchronization problem of CSK and provide accurate dimming control. Analysis and simulation are presented about the bandwidth efficiency and bit error rate. The results show that the integrated modulation method has a bandwidth efficiency higher than 1. Meanwhile, it is superior to some typical dimming control modulations, such as variable on-off keying(VOOK), variable pulse position modulation(VPPM), multi pulse position modulation(MPPM) on bandwidth efficiency, and can achieve high-speed communication with low bit error rate and dimming control. Therefore, it is more suitable for high-speed data transmission with illumination constraints in VLC.
