Abstract

Non-ordinary state-based peridynamics (NOSBPD) and finite element method (FEM) are coupled to study the discontinuous problems, in which the damage criteria can be adopted from the viewpoint of strain and stress tensors. The coupling method takes full use of advantages of NOSBPD in dealing with discontinuous issues and the high efficiency of FEM, which also can eliminate the surface effect in PD. The computation domain for the coupling method includes the NOSBPD region and the FEM region, but no coupling region between the above two regions. Several numerical examples are used to validate the accuracy and efficiency of the coupling method in solving the one-dimensional, two-dimensional and three-dimensional static and dynamic discontinuous problems.
